What Phones Use eSIM?

An eSIM is the digital equivalent of the SIM card used to store carrier information such as your phone number and plan.
Apple iPhone XS, XS Max and XR use embedded SIM technology; Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL also utilize it.
However, iPhones purchased within mainland China cannot support eSIM activation.
Samsung
Apple, Samsung and Google have all adopted eSIM technology on their flagship smartphones. Many eSIM-compatible phones also support dual SIM functionality – meaning you can keep two phone numbers or data contracts active at the same time on one device.
Current iPhone, Samsung Galaxy S22 suite and Galaxy Z Fold 5G smartphones as well as Google Pixel 3A/3XL/3AXL devices support eSIM cards – different than Motorola Razr flip phones which were the first eSIM phones ever produced.
If you own a Samsung device, verify its support of eSIM by accessing Settings – About Phone – Network lock status and selecting Unlocked from its drop down list. This should allow you to switch providers while still using one device.
