Can an Embedded SIM Be Changed to a Physical SIM?

A SIM (subscriber identity module) is a memory chip that stores phone numbers and other personal data. This feature helps make phones slimmer and lighter while offering increased portability.

Though eSims offer convenience, they can be challenging to switch between devices or carriers. Google is currently working on a solution for Android phone owners to transfer their eSIMs between phones.

How to do it?

If you’re looking to save money on your cell phone plan or simply get rid of the hassle of carrying around a physical SIM card, an eSIM might be the way to go. Unlike traditional SIMs, eSIMs come built-into smartphones so there’s no need to physically swap them out when changing plans or carriers.

To begin the process of switching your eSim to physical sim, visit any Airtel store and present valid documents such as Aadhaar Card, Driving License or Voter ID card. After all details and documents have been verified, you will be issued with a duplicate physical SIM card.

Your eSIM will be activated within two hours, so please scan the QR code immediately upon receiving it. After activation has taken place, your physical SIM will be disconnected from the network.

How much will it cost?

Embedded SIMs (eSIMs) enable you to switch operators or mobile plans without needing to take physical SIMs out of your phone. They’re also fast and effortless to update.

If you own an iPhone XS, XS Max or XR, changing your eSIM to a physical one is as easy as walking into an AT&T store and paying a small fee. This is the quickest and easiest way to make sure your mobile device works with AT&T and your cellular plan.

How long will it take?

Utilizing eSIMs instead of traditional SIM cards has several advantages. Most notably, you don’t need to replace your SIM when changing plans or carriers, saving money on monthly phone bills.

However, if you’re trying to switch from an eSIM to a physical SIM, the process may not be as straightforward as it appears. A recent tweet from Google indicates that calling your carrier and scanning a QR code won’t suffice.

Rahman noted that the ability to transfer an eSIM between devices isn’t a standard feature of the eSIM specification, meaning Google may need to initially make this functionality available only through AOSP for Pixel phones.

Good news! Apple recently made it easier for iPhone users to convert physical SIMs or migrate eSIMs from previous devices, making it likely that we’ll see this functionality come to Android soon enough.
